Eye-Tracking Studies

By Kristine Wirth | Jun 29, 2008

Are you familiar with eye-tracking studies? A selected group of individuals are chosen to view various websites. A special program then tracks their eye-movements and what they tend to focus on the most.

Why this is important to you is because when creating your website you’ll want to take into account what the “average” user looks for on your site and then design your site accordingly.

Things like:

  • Banner ads - do people really pay attention to them?
  • Should you write shorter or longer paragraphs?
  • Do images get attention on the page?
  • If so, what works better? Smaller or larger images?
  • What letter of the alphabet does a typical eye-tracking study look like when someone views the page?
  • Where is the best place to put your navigation?
